The Solar Energy Series – Episode 11: Solar Law Workshop

This session will review various community and environmental factors to consider when developing a local solar law. It will provide a high-level review of the substantive and procedural aspects surrounding various types of solar projects, with the greatest focus on commercial-scale projects that can be regulated at the local level by municipal zoning and land use laws and regulations. It will include special emphasis on practical considerations for preventing adverse impacts to health, community/neighborhood character, and agricultural resources, and will also discuss the role of municipalities in conducting environmental review during the planning stages of a project. The session will also address strategic considerations related to tax incentives under New York State real property tax law.
